October 6, 2006 ~ Middle Granville, NY ~ Cool temperatures and a sunny blue sky created the perfect back drop for the 4th annual Middle Granville Bluegrass Festival. The festival is held on the Middle Granville Firemans Carnival Grounds and is a not-for-profit event with a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Penryhn Engine and Hose Co. Admission to the festival was $10 to cover all 3 days with the proceeds going toward food and the large BBQ on Saturday afternoon.

The day was filled with numerous performances by many local and regional artists from all over the East Coast, including Granville's own The EvansWood Country and Bluegrass Show (Click on photo to the right to see a video).

When the sun went down and the temperatures begun to drop numerous picking parties erupted around campfires, and in the sheltered areas between RVs that drew crowds of cold onlookers. The largest, and warmest, picking party was held in the barn adjacent to the carnival grounds, most of the night was standing room only.

I retired around 3am to a cold camper (I have no heat) looking foreword the festivities of the next day.

October 7, 2006 ~ Middle Granville, NY ~ After a long evening the night before, playing in the barn till 3am, a slight frost on the ground in the morning, and plenty of coffee the festival once again picked up around 9am when the stage was opened up to whoever wished to play. It did not take long, even though the temperature was only around 40 degrees, for pickers ranging from first timers to professionals to enthusiastically take the stage.

The day was filled with wonderful Bluegrass music and the occasional Country tune or two. The evening was marked an excellent BBQ chicken dinner for 200+ people and an outstanding performance by Dan Paisley and the Southern Grass. (Click on photo to the left to see a video). Though the stage closed down around 10pm the picking went on till 4am around the campsites and in the barn. Truly a night I will never forget.
October 8, 2006 ~ Middle Granville, NY ~ Sunday morning was a slow one for people to arise. Some packed up and left early in the morning, others spent the day picking and packing, leaving in the late afternoon.

I would like to thank Stacy and Kelly Goodspeed (Kelly is the one playing Bass in the The EvansWood Country and Bluegrass Show video above) for organizing the festival, not for money but for their love of the music, and the Penrhyn Engine and Hose Co. for use of the Carnival Grounds and all of material support they provided (Chairs, Tables, Electric ...). Thank you to all of the great musicians that came to share their joy with the rest of us. And I can't forget the '66 Shasta Camper.

It was a great way to spend a nice fall weekend, and I am looking foreword to next year.
